Passiflora incarnata, flower dry extract 70 mg
This extract has long been known for its ability to relax and reduce tension. Biochemical studies show that natural flavonoids are a key active ingredient and that Passionflower strengthens the effectiveness of GABA brain receptors which aid relaxation. Gamma-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a primary inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system reduces the amount of nerve cell activity – which has a calming and relaxing effect. Essentially Passionflower also has properties that prevent vital neurotransmitters (dopamine, norepinephrine, serotonin) from breaking down, which increases their levels in the body and results in improved mood and temperament.
Chamomilla recutita, flower dry extract 70 mg
Chamomile has been used as a traditional medicine for thousands of years to calm anxiety and settle stomachs. Chamomile contains Apigenin, a flavonoid with anxiolytic properties. Chamomile also has a muscle-relaxing, anti-inflammatory and anti-spasmodic properties. Because of these properties, chamomile may provide relief in a variety of common small animal disorders and can be used as a sedative.
Valeriana officinalis, root dry extract 30 mg
Valerian root is best known for its sedating qualities, and is used to relieve stress, insomnia and anxiety, control seizures and supports relaxation. Valerian root is believed to work via the receptors of the GABA, which blocks nerve transmissions between neurons that stimulate activity.
L – Tryptophan 20 mg
Tryptophan (Trp) is an indispensable dietary amino acid that supports the modulation of mood and behavior in mammalian species through its role in the serotonergic pathway. When excess L-Trp is supplied to the diet and not used for the purpose of protein synthesis, it may be used as a therapeutic supplement. Currently used in domestic animals, L-Trp is the primary precursor of serotonin that has a sedative effect such as in pain sensitivity and aggressive behaviors. Tryptophan has been used to decrease aggression and impulsivity in dogs and cats. It also has both mood stabilization and calming effects.
Melatonin 1 mg
Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone in the body of both animals and humans. It is secreted by the pineal gland. As a supplement, it can help us and our canine companions relax, de-stress, and sleep. It may also help with certain medical conditions. You should always talk to your veterinarian before introducing any new medications or supplements into your pet’s health care regime.
Instructions for use:
1 capsule (up to 3 times) a day per 10 kg BW. Or as advised by veterinary surgeon.
For oral administration. CALMATONIN capsules can be given whole or can be pulled apart and mixed with a small amount of food. Give for as long as considered necessary or as advised by veterinary surgeon.
